The Native Trees of Canada

My mom bought this book by Leanne Shapton from Drake General Store in Toronto. We both loved the illustrations and wanted to display them in our house so we bought some clipboards from the dollar store, cut out the pages from the book (it was a bittersweet moment) and now have them hanging in our dining room with the illustrations on rotation.

Having prints on display with clipboards is the best! It means that every once and a while we will take all the illustrations and create a new combo. Great for people like us who have too many prints they want to display in their home and not enough wall space to showcase them all!

By the way, how awesome is this book!? (It was published by Drawn and Quarterly which I wrote about here.)

April in Iceland!

Looks like my dream to go to Iceland is finally coming true! In April, after working for the year, my aunt and I are heading to the land of hot springs and breathtaking landscapes, and I couldn't be more excited! Right now we're in the early planning stages and have been doing a bunch of research!

One of the best and most inspirational things I've come across while researching for our trip has been this post from the blog Big Bang Studio. We will definitely be hitting up the abandoned thermal pool! It looks gorgeous!

The Spun Chair

I love when furniture can be fun! I got the chance to try out the Spun chair at IIDEX and boy are they fun. When you first try and spin around in one you really think you are going to fall out! I hope these become the public chair of the future. Imagine waiting for the bus to arrive while sitting in one of these!

Design Lovers Guide to Savannah, Georgia

I went to Savannah with a friend a while back and realized I never posted about it! I would have rather done this when everything was fresh in my mind but, I thought I would share my favorite spots from this truly charming and beautiful town anyways.

Shops

Fabrika and Ollie Otson

There is a store called Fabrika on the corner of Bull and Liberty which is beautiful, as well as the other store in the same building. The building itself is old and gorgeous, rustic hardwood flooring, with daylight streaming through the white trimmed windows. Fabrika is a fabric store with all sorts of fun and colourful fabrics. After visiting Fabrika, you can climb up a few floors (make sure to snoop around a bit on the way up the building is awesome!), to get to Ollie Otson a cute little vintage clothing shop.

Red Clover

My friend and I were so excited when we stumbled across this little boutique. It had a great assortment of very nice, affordable clothing and the jewellery was to die for! I could have bought this entire store!

SCAD shop

The Scad shop was a highlight of the shopping portion of the trip. SCAD is the Savannah College of Art and Design and there are SCAD buildings and events going on all over downtown Savannah. I think having SCAD in Savannah is one of the reasons that the town is so darn cool. The young and funky art students roaming around, helping the little hip stores, the students opening their own shops and such. I knew before the trip that I wanted to go to the SCAD shop because my mom recommended it to me, but I did not think I would spend so much time there. I checked out the website before I went and the stuff didn't look very exciting to be honest ($2,000 button necklaces?) but boy their website does not do the store justice, I ended up spending over an hour in there (it's pretty small) and I went back again a few days later. They sell all sorts of awesome jewelry, art, stationary, and home goods and the majority of it is reasonably priced. I went home with some really nice cards with drawings of the classic Savannah spanish moss covered oak trees on them ($10 for the set) and a pretty ring for my friend ($15). 

E. Shaver, Bookseller

I stumbled upon this bookstore as I was wondering around aimlessly and it is just beautiful! And of course they have a great selection of books, old and new and vintage maps! Very cool place.

Eats

The Olde Pink House basement - Planter's Tavern

The pink house is one of the top places to eat in Savannah, the food is delicious and it is in a classic old house. We ate up stairs in the main part of the restaurant where you have to make reservations far in advance, but we were intrigued by the piano playing we could hear coming through the basement and went to check it out. It was a gorgeous dimly lit bar area, with two fire places, a live piano player, and the exact same (divine!) food as upstairs. Next time I would definitely skip making a reservation for upstairs and eat down in the Planter's Tavern. Although it may not be as classy, it seemed like a very unique and fun dining experience!

River Street Sweets

This place is a total tourist spot but the Pralines are to die for! Seriously worth trying.

This was my first trip to Savannah so I have probably only scraped the surface of all that is there. I can't wait to go back!
